There is this trend that each industry has its own conferences. The ones for the hospitality and the tourism industry are nothing new. However they usually tend to be big and mostly focused on the hotels.
But there are few conferences that are designed for the smaller budget accommodations, hostels, bed & breakfasts. Where they try to focus on the solutions, problems and news, dedicated directly to this part of the hospitality industry.
To be honest with you so far I have participated only in one hostel conference (and hopefully in the future I will in more) but it doesn’t change the fact I do believe it is worth it!
REASONS TO ATTEND THE HOSTEL EVENTS
Learning new things
The main idea of the events like conferences is to share knowledge within the industry. So it is obvious you get the possibility of learning new skills and getting fresh news and solutions.
Behind the scene, this is what conference is all about – getting to know new people from your field, exchange of contacts and starting new partnerships.
To be honest I think ‘networking’ is just another, professional, name for making new friends from the hostel community.
Finding new opportunities for your business
It is connected with the reason mentioned above. New partnerships can mean new opportunities for your hostel to develop. Also you will get for sure some new ideas and different overlooks on this industry.
Conferences can be a perfect excuse for escaping from work for a short period of time. After all you are going to ‘work’, right? Just that, this time remotely 🙂
Because hostel conferences usually take place in different cities and locations around the world.
Yes, you read good – parties. That’s one of the reason to go for conferences too. Welcoming meetings and ending parties are always an opportunity to discuss things in a relaxed atmosphere over the beer (well what kind of hostel event would it be if it wouldn’t include at least a little bit of alcohol).

As the hostel industry evolves there will be probably more events directed to it. Conferences (and ‘unconferences’) are always a good idea for getting to know better the hostel community and gaining new knowledge.
And if hostels are about being social than for sure conferences are reflection of this.
If you’ve heard about any other hostel event, please let me know in the comments.
Hope we will meet on one of those events soon!
