Social media are part of our daily life. It’s not anymore a fill-in entertainment with which we are losing our times. It’s the way to stay connected, updated and to get inspired.
Also to find your hostel and book it online.
Before long, you should realize the power that it has and how it influences your business.
Believe me, I know it’s not easy to manage it all the time and have all the social media continuously updated. Also, I realize that not each of you can afford the community manager who will take care of it (after all, you have more essential expenses).
But it is crucial.
WHY ARE SOCIAL MEDIA IMPORTANT FOR YOUR HOSTEL?
✓ 55% of travellers need to check different travel resources before proceeding to the booking (this is where your social media comes in)
✓ It is the BEST way to show WHY your hostel is different and to do it with your UNIQUE voice
✓ Social platforms help you connect with your customer and get to know better (so you can improve and personalize your offers)
✓ They are a great way to receive feedback
You can admit it: you have no time to focus on social media, and you have more urgent things to take care of. I understand it.
But these urgent things that you have now are deeply connected with your guests. Your clients. And they are out there: on social media. And if they can’t find you on the social platforms, they will find you on Booking, Expedia or HostelWorld.
Maybe they will not find you at all…
So how can you start and manage it (successfully)? Because you don’t need to have expensive tools or be a graphic/video designer to do it right. All you need is a bit of planning and time (no one said it will be easy).
HOW TO PREPARE:
✓ Choose the day for so-called batch content planning. This is when you will create content for your platforms
✓ Less is more – choose social media through which you can really connect with your guests. It’s better to put 100% effort into 2 social platforms rather than 20% into 5 of them
✓ If you have a trusted member of the staff who is eager to manage your social media, maybe it’s time to give her or him this opportunity
✓ Create a checklist (daily and weekly) for your social media to make sure you never forget about the tasks for successful social media running
✓ Set your goals for social platforms and the strategy to achieve them
✓ Decide what type of content you want to share and what kind of voice you want to use
✓ Be real – as long as you will show the true face of your hostel, people will love you. Authenticity is the key to the heart of your ideal guests.
If it seems overwhelming to you, don’t worry. It’s not that complicated. But like many things, it requires consistency and time.
And time might be your greatest enemy (I mean, you need to manage a whole hostel, right?).
Below you will find tools that will help you to save this time. So no need to stick to social media every day, okay? (unless you will fall in love with Instagram and become addicted to it).
The best perk? Most of them are free unless you want to use more of their features (you know your needs best, so you choose).
TOOLS TO MANAGE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:
- Hootsuite – it is a social platform manager that allow scheduling your posts
- Later – official partner of Instagram that will enable you to schedule your Instagram posts (and also stories in the paid plan)
- Canva – no need to be a graphic designer to create excellent content
- Adobe Spark – another online program for graphic designs
- Trello – manage your projects and checklists
If until this point, you are still not convinced to make it by yourself, don’t worry. You can always invest and find adequate people who will take care of your hostel’s social platforms.
You can either find freelancers or contact with girls from STAY THE NIGHT who are helping people like you.
- Engage with your public and community – share your guest’s posts, comment and reply to the messages
- Follow other hostels’ accounts that you love so you can get inspired
- Encourage your inhouse guests to share their experiences on social media- they are your best brand ambassadors.
