Ok, so I’m a big supporter of booking directly with properties. But even I can’t escape the fact that booking websites are now essential and the best, fast and easy way to find accommodation.
However in the ocean of such pages you must know that not all are very hostel friendly – which means that hostels might not be the first thing that will come out in your search (although this might change soon, thanks to all the cookies histories).
First thing first let me remind you why you should book a hostel in a first place:
→ it’s in most cases the cheapest, centrally located accommodation
→ cool common spaces
→ clean rooms and recently there are more and more with the unique interiors
→ hostel activities, like free or paid walking tours, games, etc.
→ atmosphere that can’t give you any other type of accommodation
→ you can get to know people from all over the world
→ if you don’t feel social you don’t need to be
→ if you want more privacy, there are hostels with private rooms
→ you can get cool tips for your trips from the staff who is in most cases local
Few facts to consider before booking your accommodation:
♦ Check out the location, sometimes it is worth to pay 10€ more but have most of the places of interest close by (so you save on the transportation)
♦ Check the overall punctuation for the hostel
♦ Read carefully the descriptions and make sure if there is a 24 reception in case of your early or late arrival, if there are some extra charges, etc.
♦ Read the recent opinions, but be mindful about them. Check the property answers to the negative ones.

As you can see there are many websites that are dedicated to hostels. I have featured Booking.com in ‘others’ as it is the most popular booking website for all types of accommodation.
As you have might already known the most popular websites are Hostelworld and Booking, however I recommend you to check out the other ones from time to time (and the hostel websites), as you never know what discount you might find!

This small money allows me to go for a beer after finishing my shift in a hostel (very often much-needed) and supports maintaining this blog.
