This time I was inspired by the Hilton Hotels campaign „Stop clicking around”. It encourages travellers to book directly. Although I’m a hostel lover I’m interested in the whole travel industry overall and try to keep up to date with all the news in the business.
This one actually does not apply only to the hostels. It is about all the accommodation types. The fight between accommodation and the rising power of booking websites is not news to me.
So next time you will be planning your trip you should reconsider those 6 facts below while choosing your hostel or hotel:
You might find some extra discounts on the website: promo codes, 1 night extra for free if you book for 2 nights. Deals like that are cool, right?
While you see that the prize on the booking website is lower than the one on the hostel’s web, read carefully. You might find that while paying 2 euro more with the hostel you have breakfast included!
Sometimes hostels have the same prizes on each web. Why pay to some extern company while you can pay all that money to the hostel of your choice and to the people who are working hard to make your stay unforgettable!
Booking directly means that hostel workers are more eager to make you free upgrades if they can or need to. Because while playing Tetris they very often choose between reservations made via booking websites and the direct ones.
The direct information is always more up-to-date than the one on the other webs. So if you don’t want to be disappointed at your arrival check the hostel’s websites, write an email or call. It is always better to do it directly with the people who are working in the hostel with which you booked your stay than via 3rd parties.
If you book directly with the hostel it is always easier to make changes or cancellations later on. Because there is no need to contact first with the 3rd parties. You simply keep in contact with the hostel.
I know that booking websites make finding accommodation easier. But here is my secret: while using bookings websites if you like some hostel, check out their website first. Find out if they have any deals, compare the prizes, check out all the info. And then decide how you want to make your booking!
